Just 50 minutes by car from Venice, atop an outcrop overlooking the plains, CastelBrando is a medieval castle in the Prosecco hills, a region granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 2019.
The Castle, with its imposing fortress surrounded by 50 hectares of parkland, dates back to Roman times to control and defend the Via Claudia Augusta, an important route across the Alps. Over time it passed into the hands of significant historical figures including the Venetian Republic and the Salesians.
In 1998 it was purchased and fully restored by the Colomban family who splendidly modernised this historical and artistic treasure, bringing back its original elegant yet sober appearance.
When viewed from the valley, the castle can be seen in all its majesty with its wide terracing and crenelated walls. Today it is a hotel, offering guests a luxurious and discrete stay with plenty of attention to detail: a refined 4-star hotel with distinctive and elegant rooms, suites and apartments, a modern wellness centre located in the oldest wing of the building, two restaurants, a bar and other spaces which are ideal for spending time together, as well as a large conference and events centre with a total capacity of around 1,800 people. And that is not all: CastelBrando is also available for weddings, and you could not hope to find a more romantic location for your special day.
After reaching the castle via the remarkable funicular lift, you can visit different parts of the museum, the 18th century San Martino church and the enormous “Cedro dell’Atlante”, a cedar tree which is more than 200 years old with a circumference of nearly three metres. This tree, which has protected status as a national historic monument, has grown between the terraces, protected by the castle’s walls.
