In the heart of the Papadopoli Giol Castle, lies a medieval well, whose stones, worn by time, are the singers of bygone eras.
Its construction is of uncertain date, but it appears to have been commissioned by the Tolentino family, who built it between 1452 and 1503.
The well was a domestic water source and a vital element for daily life and the needs of the Villa. Located above a rich aquifer, it drew from a system of resurgences and this abundance of water has always enabled the Villa to satisfy not only civil and agricultural needs, but also ornamental ones. In fact, in 1850, it contributed to the creation of the small lake in the park, an almost unique element in the panorama of Venetian Villas. The pond, with its placid waters and shady banks, became a place of refuge and beauty, an oasis of tranquillity where nature and architecture blend harmoniously.
The medieval well at Castello Giol is not just an artefact, but a symbol of the deep bond between the land and its inhabitants, a silent witness to the history and traditions that have shaped this wonderful estate.
